U.S. Sight: The American Police Museum and Hall of Fame
The American Police Hall of Fame & Museum was founded in 1960 and was the first in the country. In addition to indoor exhibit halls and outdoor exhibits, the museum includes a shooting center where police officers improve their skills.
The marble wall of the memorial is engraved with the names of the Americans who died in the line of duty. Every year family, friends and colleagues of fallen police officers gather here to observe a moment of silence in St. Michael’s Chapel.
At the Miami Police Museum, visitors can learn about the history of American law enforcement since the second half of the 11th century. Auto Alley features examples of cars and motor vehicles from various periods, including the car used in the filming of the 1982 Harrison Ford movie Razorblade Runner.
There’s a room devoted to counterterrorism, as well as weapons, night-vision equipment and protective clothing. In the K9 exhibit, you can learn about the interaction between men in uniform and their service four-legged friends, and in the research lab you can learn how DNA testing and fingerprinting takes place. In the interactive hall you can try your hand at being a detective or a criminal, and if you like you can have your picture taken in the electric chair or next to the guillotine.
